From press release

The 25th Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition will occur in Sinnissippi Park, 1401 N. Second St. in Rockford from Jan. 19-22, 2011. The postponement date is Jan. 26-29.

Nine teams from Illinois will compete, with the winner advancing to the 2012 National Championship in Lake Geneva, Wis. One exhibition team (the winner of last year’s Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition) will also carve a sculpture.

Fourteen area high school teams will participate in the High School Division, with competition occurring Jan. 20-22.

Sculpting will end at 10 a.m., Jan. 22, at which time judging will occur. The public is encouraged to cast their vote for People’s Choice Award between 8:30 and 11 a.m. on the 22nd. Winners will be announced at the awards banquet at 1 p.m. in the Sinnissippi Park Maintenance Building.

Visitors have the option of either driving through the park to view the sculptures or parking outside of the park and walking. The Park District encourages everyone who can to take the time to walk through to maximize their experience and allow them to view the sculptures from all sides.

Also, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Rockford Park District’s Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, the Rockford Park District, in partnership with WIFR-TV 23, offered a community snow sculpting contest for families and friends. Businesses and organizations were also invited to participate. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 14, and the first-place winner will be recognized at the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition awards banquet on Jan. 22.

The Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition is a free, family-friendly community winter event hosted by the Rockford Park District, and receives tremendous support from the community through financial and in-kind donations. The premier sponsor of Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition is SwedishAmerican Health System, and the premier sponsor of the High School Division is Rasmussen College. Other major sponsors include ABC Catering, Area Erectors, Holiday Inn Express, Noonan’s at Aldeen, Chicago Rockford International Airport, Stockholm Inn, William Charles Construction, and WIFR-TV Channel 23.

Many private and public groups cooperate to offer this event for the 50,000-plus spectators who will view the frozen works of art during the event and for many days following the competition.
